Did you ever feel the need to do something scary? Not just a little scary but REALLY scary, at least for you?
It happened to me a while back…
Hubby came home from work and kissed me hello. I returned his greeting and then said, “I’ve been thinking…”
After 40 years of marriage, Hubby always braces himself for anything when hearing those words. So I wasn’t surprised that he put on his ‘now what?’ look.
“I’d like to get a motorcycle license – and a motorcycle.”
Hubby picked himself up off the floor and stared at me, mouth agape. Gathering some composure he gasped, “You!? But…but…”
Even I had to admit that idea registered in the never-in-a-million-years category for me.
Once Hubby recovered from his shock, we chatted about it and decided to initiate THE PLAN.
Someone told us that Pennsylvania offers free motorcycle safety classes that combine classroom training with actual motorcycle riding.
But we didn’t have a bike or helmet. Turned out that wasn’t a problem, our state provides them for those taking the class. Participants only needed to bring leather gloves, over-the-ankle boots, and a motorcycle learners’ permit. THE PLAN continued.
At completion of our weekend class, the instructors administered the motorcycle driving test to each participant. To our relief, both Hubby and I passed. We now had motorcycle licenses, but no bikes.
Going online, we found my bike on the local Craigslist and Hubby’s on consignment at a local dealer. THE PLAN was now complete.
These days this biker babe granny buzzes along back roads in a hot pink & white full-face helmet, hot pink & white biker jacket, pink biker gloves, and Harley Davidson boots.
Riding is fun, although still scary. But life can become rather humdrum if we don’t plunge out of our comfort zone once in a while.
